£10 challenge

£10 Challenge - recycling project

Volunteering Society outside Print Room Cafe - £10 Challenge, Recycling Idea

About the £10 Challenge
How would you use £10 to improve the lives of your fellow Londoners? We’re looking for students with a bit of extra creativity to stretch those tenners to the furthest reaches of the imagination.

Sounds like you? Then come to UCLU Volunteering Society with your idea, and if we think your idea is a good one, we’ll give you a crisp, fresh ten pound note.

What counts as a good idea? Well, to start with, you must use the £10 to benefit the community – i.e. not just students and not just people you already know. The point of the challenge is to connect UCL students to the wider world.

There are 4 broad categories for you to choose your projects from:
o    Fund-raising
o    Community service
o    Cultural exchange
o    Raise awareness of a cause
To get you started, here are some ways you might spend the £10:

– Bake some cakes with your friends and organize a bake sale, donating all profits to charity
– Raise awareness of recycling using £10 to buy cookies for people to exchange for used cups
– Create Christmas cards and sell them, with profits going to charity
– Hold a mini-cultural exhibition by buying distinct items from your country to showcase in UCL
– Print some flyers to raise awareness of a community issue you care about

Timeline of the Challenge

  • •  Submission of Proposal runs to 31st January '12  and                             Project Completion to 20th February

•    Submission of reflections (max 500 words) and pictures
•    Winners will be announced at the VSU Awards Ceremony in May 2012

How to get the £10

Fill out the proposal form; you can get this from by downloading it from here  and submit it to v.society@ucl.ac.uk. If we think that your idea meets the criteria, we’ll give you the £10 and put your idea on our £10 Challenge webpage.

Once you’ve spent the £10, come back and tell us what you did with a reflection of up to 500 words. The most successful or innovative project will win an opportunity to further the idea with a grant of up to £750 provided by the UCL Volunteering Services Unit’s (VSU) Small Grants Scheme. The 2nd and 3rd prize winners will get a silver and bronze certificate of their achievements and all submissions will receive a VSU certificate of participation.

Good luck!
