Whether you will be lucky enough to have finished your exams, or need a wee morale boost to get you through the last few days of hard grind, Medic to Medic UCL are pleased to invite one and all to the triumphant return of our end-of-year ceilidh. The event last year was a massive success, with music enthusiastically supplied by the SOAS Red Rock Ceilidh Band whipping the crowd into a frenzy of flailing limbs and tapping feet – so slip on some comfy shoes and come join us for a free glass of wine and an evening of huge entertainment!

UCL MODEL UNITED NATIONS - GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP AND TEACHING INTERNATIONAL ISSUES WORKSHOP
Time: 2pm-3:30pm

How do you teach important global issues such as poverty, human rights and security? What is the best way to engage young people on these kinds of topics? The UCL Model United Nations Programme has been doing just that for nearly three years now, working with schools across London.
During this session we will cover basic teaching skills and techniques, with some example exercises that we do with the students to give you a taste of how we teach. The aim is to give you a taster of how to teach these subjects to a young audience, and if you’re interested you can sign-up with us as a volunteer for next year.

LANGUAGE CULTURAL EVENT
Time: 10am-12pm
Venue: Bloomsbury Conference Room
This is a great event where you can teach primary school pupils the basics of three different foreign cultures and languages: Italian, Mandarin and Spanish. The event will consist of a series of creative, fun activities involving these languages and cultures. The sessions will include anything from origami, food tasting, national dress and music and dance to language and numerical activities.

We’re looking for a team of enthusiastic cheerers to encourage, motivate and support all our Macmillan walkers and runners taking part in the London to Brighton Hike.

The London Science Buskers project is designed to promote science literacy by giving the local community an opportunity to engage in science-based conversation with UCL research students. To do this we use the medium of ‘science busking’ – entertaining and educating through science-based tricks and games. As well as attending local community events we plan to use it as an excuse to get out of the lab/office on a sunny day. It’s a great opportunity to share your passion for science and improve your confidence in public speaking, so come and talk to us if you’re interested in finding out more about what we do, or to volunteer yourself!

BULB PLANTING

Plant a bulb and branch out into volunteering. Take two minutes to plant some bulbs in a pot and they’ll be delivered to St Mungo’s Hostel for single homeless people and to the Third Age Project for older people to brighten up their homes. While you’re there you can find out about other volunteering opportunities and meet some of the new Volunteering Society committee members.

We are looking for four willing volunteers to spend time at the Hop Farm Mirror Fest in aid of Sparks! You will be bucket collecting and staffing the Sparks stall where we will be giving away (for a donation) yummy cakes donated by Pink Rose Cakes. Volunteers will be able to camp and enjoy the festivities when they are not on duty. It will be a unique experience with loads to do and see, for example, the best tribute rock banks in the country, motorbike shows and extreme animal encounters.

MS SOCIETY COLLECTION FUNDRAISERS

Around 100,000 people in the UK have MS. It affects two million more. We offer hope for the future by investing millions in research, and help for today through our information, support and campaigning. The MS Society has exclusive rights to hold street collections throughout London on Saturday 1st June, and we are looking for volunteers to help shake a bucket around Gower Street.
