Position: Democracy & Communications

UCLU has a packed events calendar covering a huge range of events, activities, campaigns, performances and meetings. These take place in our own venues, elsewhere on campus and across London. It is my job to tell you about everything that we are doing through our website, email, social media and otherwise. We communicate with thousands of our members instantly and I am responsible for ensuring that these channels are giving you the information you want, when you want it.
UCLU is your Union and you have a direct say in how it is operated by voting in or standing in the elections. A big part of my job is to ensure the democratic side of UCLU is operating effectively and as many of you as possible are exercising your right to vote in elections, referendums and at members meetings.
Some of my recent achievements include: organising elections and a referendum that drew the highest turnout ever at UCL, overseeing the launch of a new website with features including an interactive event calendar and launching an email strategy that gives you the information you want in a clear and distinct format.
Luke Durigan
Position: Education & Campaigns
Telephone: 0207 679 7949
Email: ec.officer@ucl.ac.uk
Education is why we're here, plain and simple. It is your right to demand what you deserve, especially with students paying ever-increasing fees for your education. UCLU is your representative body to the College and my role is to ensure we are doing this effectively and to make sure your whole educational experience meets your expectations.
UCLU also runs campaigns on issues that you as students choose. These vary from things like feedback on your work, to workers rights on campus and the provision of vegetarian food. I am here to help you to get involved in campaigning on the issues you care passionately about and to put the weight of UCLU behind your cause
Some of my recent achievements include making the process much more effective for students wanting to campaign, and campaigning nationally to ensure that Government's HE Bill was dropped.
Tim Rees Jones
Position: Finance & Services
Telephone: 0207 679 7375
Email: fs.officer@ucl.ac.uk
Your Union, your services, your money. I'm the officer responsible for making sure UCLU's money works for you as students. UCLU is a registered charity, independent from UCL and we operate a range of great value commercial services with any profit being reinvested to help us deliver all of our services to you.
My job also covers the UCLU's commitments to sustainability and 'green' issues, including supporting the Green Champion scheme along with UCL.
UCL is currently undertaking a major rebuilding plan of the entire Bloomsbury campus and I am working to ensure that your needs are at the forefront of any decisions they make.
Amy Evans
Position: Student Activities
Telephone: 0207 679 7392
Email: sa.officer@ucl.ac.uk
UCLU has over 180 student run clubs and societies so student activities at UCLU are extremely varied. Over 8,000 students a year get involved in the diverse set of events, societies, fixtures, training and other activities we run. My role is to make sure that you can easily pursue your hobbies and interests outside of your lectures during your time at UCL.
I also oversee UCLU’s hugely popular Volunteering Services Unit. In addition to making sure that this service is helping students to find the opportunity that is right for them, I award grants to groups of students who are looking to run their own projects.
Some of my recent achievements include: setting up an online room booking system for clubs and societies and helping to organise the London Varsity rugby matches where 2,500 supporters watched UCL teams thrash our arch rivals, Kings' College London.
Rachel Eyre
Position: Welfare
Telephone: 0207 679 7930
Email: w.officer@ucl.ac.uk
I am here to make sure you are able to get the most from your time at UCL by looking after your welfare and representing you to the College on a variety of important issues.
I work closely with UCL Residences to improve conditions in UCL halls. UCLU operates forums for BME, LGBT, Women’s and Disabled students and I work with the forum chairs and with Equality more widely to ensure these groups are operating effectively and any needs or campaigns they identify are progressed. I also work with faith and other interest groups to ensure their needs are well looked after by UCL and UCLU.
International students also have some specific needs such as immigration, accommodation and access to local services and I work with UCLU’s Advice and Welfare services to help students deal with these issues.
Some of my recent achievements include: improving UCL’s quiet contemplation room facilities, securing more funding for psychological services, setting up a language cafe and speed lingua events for students to socialise and improve upon their language skills.
Neil Chowdhury
Position: Medical and Postgraduates
Telephone: 0207 679 7931
Email: mp.officer@ucl.ac.uk
I am here to look after the specific and often complex needs of UCL’s medical and postgraduate students as well as students from the School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies (SSEES) and the School of Pharmacy. I work closely with student representatives from both of these groups to represent you, assist with any welfare issues, and generally to make sure your education and extra-curricular experiences at UCL are what you expect.
On the social side of things I am involved in organising and running a full programme of events, such as the Postgraduate Boat Party and the RUMS finalists’ ball
UCL’s Medical School (RUMS) has a thriving and independent set of sports clubs and part of my role is helping to maintain their continuity and building on their success.
