You are here

Forums

UCLU Forums give you the opportunity to regularly debate and discuss what the Union does and says in various areas. Forums are the scene of diverse activities including socialising,  skill development and campaigning. Meetings take place at least twice a term, with socials and other events taking place as well.

Activities Forum

  • Chair: Doris Chen
  • Email the Chair
  • Next meeting: 3rd November, 5pm - The Study (2nd floor 25 Gordon Street)

The Activities Forum is a platform for all UCLU members to discuss and direct student activities at UCL. You can have a say in anything from one-off events to skills development; you can take part in the organisation of various projects; and you can lead on the ideas you suggest. Though the Activities Officer chairs the Forum and the Activities Board works to translate the talk into action, every decision will be made by vote and every vote will be equally weighted. Only at the Forum can you take control of your student activities.

Community Forum

  • Chair: Jessica Riches
  • Email the Chair
  • Next meeting: 21st November, 1pm - Haldane Room

The Community Forum exists to connect students to their fellow Londoners. We cover volunteering, local neighbourhood groups, student safety in London, halls of residences, charities and community groups. Like all of UCLU's forums, we're new and it's up to you to decide what we do - so come along!

Education Forum

  • Chair: Edwin Clifford-Coupe
  • Email the Chair
  • Next meeting: 09 March, 2.30pm - The Haldane Room, Main Building

The next meeting will be a library special! We will be discussing library fines, computer facilities, opening hours and anything else that you want to raise. We will be feeding back on these discussions directly to library staff at the Library Open Town Meeting taking place in March 2012. That means that this is your chance to have a say in how the libraries at UCL are run and how you would like to see them develop.

Equality Forum

The Equality Forum would ensure all Union activities are providing equality of opportunity and that the Union is representing its students on issues that they feel contradict or violate equal opportunities. The Forum will also promote the development of equal opportunities activities amongst UCLU and the college.

Ethics & Environment Foru  m

  • Chair: Natalie Gorodnitski
  • Email the Chair
  • Next meeting: 15th November, 1pm - D103

A forum for all UCL students to come and vent their spleen at any issue related to environment & ethics at UCL Union (and UCL itself). Info will be given on ethical & environmental events, initiatives and problems in the union, and discussion from this group will feed directly into decision-making in the union and UCL!

International Students' Forum

The International Students' Forum is open to all UCL international students. Get involved with planning events and bring along any issues you may have around language, culture or immigration. UK students are also encouraged to get involved, particularly if interested in studying abroad or learning a new language. The forum has also launched an innovative scheme to help integrate international and UK students; Language Cafe is a morning session held fortnightly which brings together all UCL students wanting to learn a new language or practice their discussional language skills. For more information on this scheme visit the International Forum Facebook Page.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans Forum

  • Chair: Stefana Radu
  • Email the Chair
  • Next meeting: 22nd November, 5:30pm - Roberts 110

The UCLU LGBT Forum is here to support you in your study and work, to provide you with assistance and information, as well as to campaign on your behalf and raise awareness of your issues. The Forum enables you to meet like-minded people within the University and across London. We work closely with LGBT networks, societies and charities, putting on joint social events, joint campaigns and providing volunteering opportunities. Although we operate under the umbrella term UCLU LGBT, we are open to everyone (QIA ), so do come along and get involved!

Postgraduate Association

This forum represents, supports and serves postgraduate students at UCL. It allows Postgraduate students to propose, discuss and vote on the campaigning we do and the services we provide at our regular open forums. In the past, these campaigns have ranged from Master's degree fees to postgrad common room opening hours, and our campaigns are moulded to feedback received directly from Postgraduate students. The Forum is also a great way to create a sense of community and unity, and our social events aim to bring together Postgraduate students studying at UCL, whether at our summer boat parties, cheese and wine nights, or at academic workshops to improve your skills. So if you want to change work and life at UCL for the better, get involved! Or if you have a problem or a question, don't hesitate to contact us.

RUMS Forum

The RUMS forum is a tool to be used by you in order to shape the medical school union experience. The forum is a platform to ensure the differently structured lifestyle of the medical student is acknowledged and bettered. It aims to better the educational, welfare, and social facets of a medical student’s time at UCLU. You can put ideas to the floor, and the forum can help you steer it to become reality. There are projects you can get involved in through the year, so come and get involved.

SSEES Forum

  • Chair: Calum Bardsley
  • Email the Chair
  • Next meeting: 28th November, 7pm - SSEES 431

The SSEES Forum is open for you to use how you wish, including highlighting issues at SSEES and around how UCLU represents SSEES students, as well as organizing social activities.

Student Media Forum

  • Chair: Hannah Sketchley
  • Email the Chair
  • Next meeting: 24th November, 6pm - Drayton B06

The Student Media forum provides a hub of communication for all those involved and interested in the media at UCL, dealing with everything from the way student media is run here to spreading awareness of the wider political context in which the media functions through professional organisations such as the NUJ.

Women's Forum

  • Chair: Candice Ashmore-Harris
  • Email the Chair
  • Next meeting: 17th November, 6pm - Social Study Space

The Women's Forum is an open space for UCLU members to freely discuss and
debate women’s issues. The Forum also offers the opportunity for students
to not just participate in, but also to direct relevant activities.

You can get involved and have your say in anything from the campaigns and
events you think we should be running, to what our logo should be, or
which charities we should support. We welcome participation from women and
men, and will not exclude anyone based on their political beliefs.

Union Council and Members' Meetings also act as forums for union-wide issues. The chair of these forums is the Union Chair, Zubair Idris. You can also email the Union Chair.
