UCLU has been saving.  And we’ve done a pretty good job. And then we thought, what should we do with these savings?  What do our members need, what do they want, what would they get the most use out of?  And we realised, no one knows the answers to these questions better than the students of UCL themselves.

So, this term, we want your Big Ideas - the bigger the better in fact! The Big Idea Challenge seeks ideas for creating a more vibrant UCLU. We welcome ideas from students across UCL, regardless of how involved you have been previously. You don’t have to be connected to a society; you don’t have to be a student officer. You just have to love UCLU and have an exciting idea for making it better. We’re looking for ideas that are new- or new to UCLU. We’re looking for that spark of an idea you’ve shared with a few friends, or haven’t told anyone about because you weren’t sure how to make it happen. We’re looking for your Big Idea.

UCL students will pick the best ideas and UCLU will help to bring them to life. Your idea should fit into one or more of the of the idea categories below:

  • Education

  • Environmental sustainability

  • Recreation and fun

  • Skills and employability

  • Community

  • Health and wellbeing

  • Representation and Campaigning

You should also think about:

  • how is your idea new to UCLU?

  • how will your idea make a difference to UCL students?

  • why do you think people will recognise or remember your idea? How might it inspire others?

How it works

Ideas submitted to the Big Idea Challenge will be assessed by a panel of reviewers purely to ensure that meet the above criteria. Everything that does will be posted on our website for all students to decide which ones we should take forward. Once the decision is made UCLU can do the rest but we are also happy to include the idea generator in the project too.

All you need to do is to:

  1. Have a great idea

  2. Tell us about it

  3. Let us do the rest
